The customer is a Spanish metal manufacturer that needs to move this weight of steel coils frequently on a daily basis, with fixed transfer routes, and requires safety, stability, reliability, and long service life. At the same time, the customer expects that material handling equipment can be quickly integrated into the existing production process, without the need for large-scale adjustments to the layout of the plant, taking into account the practicality and economy.

The Challenge and Environment

Firstly, the weight of 30-40 tons steel coils is very heavy, and the center of gravity is high, so it is easy for the center of gravity to shift during the transfer process, which increases the difficulty of manipulation and puts forward very high requirements on the load stability of the equipment.

Secondly, the steel coils are cylindrical in shape, so if they are not positioned correctly, they are prone to rolling and bumping, which may even lead to deformation of the steel coils and affect product quality, thus requiring targeted fixation solutions.

European steel mills have extremely strict standards for safety, and industrial transport equipment needs to meet local industrial safety standards, while realizing seamless integration with the customer’s existing bridge crane system to avoid process disconnection.

Combined with the characteristics of the customer’s fixed transfer routes, we accurately selected transfer cart with rail as the core solution, whose characteristics of traveling along the track can effectively avoid route deviation and ensure the accuracy of the transfer.

Transfer cart with rail is specially designed for 30-40 tons of steel coils, the carrying capacity and the weight of steel coils accurately match, and at the same time, it adopts the design idea of vertical lifting and horizontal transport separation, which improves the safety and stability of operation from the structure.

Technical Configuration and Structure of Coil Transfer Cart

The rated load of coil transfer cart is designed in strict accordance with the 40-ton standard, and at the same time, sufficient safety coefficients are reserved, which far exceeds the actual needs of customers, and it can still operate stably in response to fluctuations in the weight of steel coils.

The frame is made of high-strength steel, welded as a whole, after stress test and anticorrosion treatment, with a reinforced wheel system, which can withstand the impact of long-term heavy loads and extend the service life of transfer cart.

In order to solve the problem of fixing steel coils, the truck is equipped with a customized V-shaped steel coil support (cradle frame), which can fit the shape of steel coils to achieve accurate positioning, effectively preventing rolling, deflection, and deformation of steel coils during the transfer process.

The layout of the track system combines the existing planning of the customer’s plant to optimize the track laying path and foundation load-bearing design, ensuring smooth operation of the equipment and not affecting the surrounding production facilities.

Adaptation with Existing Plant Equipment

The original bridge crane system in the customer’s plant, we optimize the equipment connection process, focusing the crane’s function on the lifting and loading of steel coils.

Rail transfer trolley for steel coil takes over the horizontal transfer work, forming a closed-loop process of “lifting-loading-transferring”, which greatly reduces the workload of the crane and avoids the loss of the crane due to frequent horizontal movement.
